Guess who managed to catch a fall cold before fall officially began?
That’s right, this girl.
So suffice to say, elaborate cooking plans went flying out the window. Cans of soup were purchased, takeout was ordered and then a couple of basic items were cooked as I began feeling better and yearned for something fresh and homemade. But I am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things for real. I know I’ve slacked off on the recipes since around the time I went traveling over the summer. Paired with some really brutal heat, my motivation to make particularly interesting food was nearly nonexistent.
However, there’s a chill in the air now. And as much as I consider myself a summer person, I am very very ready for fall and find myself growing really excited about cooking. I’m starting to think about doing a little more batch cooking again — I was really good about that last fall and winter, and then got super lazy about it because I also might have been overdoing it a little bit. But I aim to resume doing that again, perhaps leaving room for a bit of flexibility in my schedule as well, and hopefully that will mean more recipes too.
Meanwhile, here’s some stuff I got to enjoy this month (some before my awful cold kicked in):
I wound up catching Lush play two shows back-to-back — I had purchased tickets to see them at a larger less desirable venue nearly a year ago when the band’s reunion was first announced, but then I also bought a ticket for a show the night before at a smaller venue and wound up going to both. The awesome thing about this was that the band sounded great — even with nearly identical setlists, I didn’t mind because they didn’t sound half as rusty as some bands that have been apart for years sound when they get back together. Bit of a nostalgia kick, but totally worth it….
